The Doodle 4 Google competition is coming up, and is open to all K-12 U.S. students. The theme for this Year’s contest is: If I could Travel in Time, I’d visit… After school organizations are allowed to submit a student’s doodles if they have a completed entry form signed by the child’s guardian/parent (one entry allowed per student!)
Katy Perry, Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, Mo Williams, and Jordin Sparks are just a few of the judges. Of course, Google will not accept entries that use additional materials to make a ‘3D’ effect, or doodles that are recreated or plagariazed. The student’s doodle needs to be done in pencil, felt tip, crayon, paint, or by using the computer.
The submissions are due on March 23, 2012, & have to be postmarked by March 20, 2012. The Key dates are: January 18th through March 23, 2012: when the Doodle submissions are accepted, May 2nd—May 10th of 2012: the online voting, May 17th, 2012 is the awards ceremony, and May 18, 2012 is the date when the winning doodle is going to be displayed on the homepage. Doodles will be judged in these grade groups: Grades K—3, 4—5, 6—7, 8—9, and 10—12. They will be judged based on: Creativity, how well the theme is expressed in the supporting statement and artwork, and artistic skill.
In each state, one drawing will be selected from each grade group—they will be displayed in an online gallery beginning May 2nd. The guest judges and Google doodlers will select the best doodle from each of the 50 states—all of which will be displayed in the Doodle 4 Google website. The 5 national finalists (1 per grade group) will be voted for by the U.S. public; online voting will take place from May 2nd, 2012 6 a.m. (PacificTime) to May 10th, 2012 5 p.m. The 5 nationalists will be announced in an awards ceremony held in New York City on May 17th, 2012. Finally, one of the national finalists will be declared the “National Winner of Doodle 4 Google”, and it will be featured on the homepage for 24 hours. The winner will be awarded a $30,000 college scholarship, a trip to New York for an event on May 17th, 2012, a Wacon digital design table, a t-shirt printed w/ his/her design on it, a Google Chromebook computer, and his/ her school will also be awarded a $50,000 technology grant.
